21 of the best hotels in Corfu

Corfu has long been a convenient holiday destination. With dozens of direct flights a day from the UK, getting there is easy and it takes a lot less time than to other parts of Greece too. The hard part is choosing where to stay. The good news is there is a hotel in Corfu for everyone and for every type of holiday, whether it’s a romantic weekend break or an activity-focused trip with friends. All flights land in Corfu’s main airport near the Old Town, and wherever you go next, it’s worth spending a couple of days exploring this vibrant, buzzing mix of Venetian, Byzantine and Corfiot cultures.

For a relaxed resort, the south and east coasts offer the most choice, from high-end luxury to cheaper all-in packages, but are also the most developed. The least spoiled landscapes and bays are in the northeast, but there are very few hotels there, and fewer options for families. The north and northwest coasts offer the best of both worlds: striking scenery but with well-run resorts, while the west coast is best for romantic sunsets and watersports.

This is one of the best boutique hotels in Greece — a charming, detached 18th-century townhouse that’s a 15-minute walk round the bay from the Old Town. Rooms are cosy and stylish, featuring Venetian glass lamps and green-shuttered windows; they are also impeccably clean and comfortable, some providing views through the trees of a nearby park to the sea beyond. The charm continues in the bar and coffee station with its exposed stonework and the delightful courtyard, where a breakfast of cakes and sweet buns is served by friendly staff.

A highlight is the hearty buffet breakfast, which in warmer months is served on the terrace. Ask for a garden-facing room and remember to take advantage of the pillow menu.
